Care Instructions
Product Care Guide
Every piece of jewelry is crafted with care. To keep your wood and metal pieces looking beautiful for years to come, please follow these simple care guidelines.
Quick Tips for All Pieces
- Last On, First Off Rule: Jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning (after perfume, lotions, and hairspray have dried) and the first thing you take off at night.
- Where to Store: Never store your jewelry in a humid environment, like a bathroom counter.
- A Note on Ultrasonic Cleaners: Do not use ultrasonic jewelry cleaners. The intense vibrations and chemical solutions can damage the wood and strip away the intentional dark patina.
Wood Jewelry Care
Varnished Wood
- Keep it dry: Although every piece is sealed, prolonged exposure to water, chemicals, or lotions will affect the longevity and appearance of the wood. Remove your jewelry before showering or swimming.
- Cleaning: Use a clean, dry cotton cloth with a small drop of rubbing alcohol to gently wipe the wood. Avoid getting alcohol on any metal parts, as this can cause tarnishing.
Oiled Wood
This collection features wood sealed with natural oil, buffed with wood polish, and finished with a layer of natural wax to maintain its organic, earthy look.
- Rehydrating and refreshing: If your piece feels dry or dull over time, I am happy to reapply the wax for you—just contact me!
- DIY Care: Alternatively, you can use any non-toxic wood wax (like butcher block paste) to restore its finish. Apply a small amount to a soft cloth, buff it into the wood, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for cure time.
Metal Jewelry Care
Sterling Silver
Our pendants are crafted using a premium 925 Sterling Silver from our casting house that resists oxidation, significantly slowing down the natural tarnishing process.
- The secret to silver: The best way to prevent tarnish is actually to wear your silver often! The natural oils in your skin help keep it bright.
- Storage: When you aren't wearing your silver, store it completely dry in a small, airtight ziplock bag to prevent oxidation.
Bronze
Bronze is a durable alloy of copper and tin. When polished, it radiates a stunning, warm glow similar to 10k gold, making it a gorgeous, budget-friendly alternative to solid gold.
- The aging process: Over time, exposure to air and moisture will cause bronze to develop a deeper, darker patina.
Will Bronze turn my skin green? Because bronze contains copper, it can sometimes react with your body chemistry and turn your skin green. This is completely harmless. It is a natural reaction to your skin's pH balance and is not an allergic reaction.
The Fix: If this happens, you can always apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the back of the piece where it touches your skin to create a barrier.
Special Note on Patina (Darkened/Recessed Details)
The majority of our silver and bronze pendants feature an intentional black patina applied to the etched and recessed areas to make the designs pop.
- Clean with care: When using a polishing cloth or home remedies to clean your metal, avoid rubbing the recessed or etched areas, as this will remove the dark patina.
- Our Guarantee: If you ever accidentally remove the darkened patina and need it redone, please message me! I will happily reapply it for you.
Chain Care
Our pendants are designed to be easily removed from their chains so you can clean your chains safely without damaging the pendant.
Silver Chains
If your sterling silver chain needs a refresh, remove the pendant first. You can then clean the entire chain using a polishing cloth, commercial silver cleaner, or gentle home remedies.
Gold-Filled Chains
Gold-filled jewelry is created by mechanically bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal core. It is incredibly durable and contains significantly more gold than standard "gold-plated" jewelry, meaning it won't flake or rub off easily.
- Daily Care: To keep your gold-filled chain bright, remove it before swimming (especially in chlorinated pools or salt water) and before entering saunas or steam rooms.
- Chemicals to Avoid: Avoid direct contact with lotions, perfumes, hair products, and harsh chemical cleaners, as these can degrade the metal over time.
- Cleaning: Wash gently with mild soap and warm water, rinse thoroughly, and pat completely dry with a soft cloth.
